Turkish Airlines Expands Malé Flights to Strengthen Alternative Transit Connectivity

Turkish Airlines will increase its flight frequency between Istanbul and Malé this summer, raising weekly services from four to six as the Maldives strengthens connectivity with key long-haul markets.

The seasonal expansion, scheduled from 13 May to 20 October, comes at a time when global aviation patterns are shifting, with airlines and passengers seeking alternative transit routes amid changes affecting Middle Eastern airspace.

Under the revised schedule, flights departing Istanbul will operate every Wednesday at 20:20, arriving in Malé at 06:30 the following morning. Return services from Malé are scheduled for Thursdays at 08:00, landing in Istanbul at 14:20.

The increase in frequency is expected to support growing demand during the summer travel period, particularly from Europe and North America. Istanbul’s role as a major global hub provides access to a wide network of destinations, positioning it as a key gateway for travellers heading to the Maldives.

The additional services are also expected to improve scheduling flexibility for passengers, offering more options for transit connections compared to existing routes.

The development reflects broader efforts within the aviation sector to maintain stable connectivity to the Maldives, which remains heavily reliant on international air travel for tourism inflows.

As external factors continue to influence regional flight operations, the expansion of alternative transit routes such as Istanbul is likely to play an important role in ensuring continuity of visitor arrivals and supporting the country’s tourism-driven economy.
