MMA Begins Maldivians Travelling Abroad Survey 2026

The Maldives Monetary Authority has started the Maldivians Travelling Abroad Survey 2026 at Velana International Airport's Arrival Hall, running from July 25 to 31.

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has commenced the Maldivians Travelling Abroad Survey 2026 at the Velana International Airport Arrival Hall, the central bank said in a Facebook post.

The survey will run from July 25 to July 31. It is the first time the survey has been conducted since 2018.

MMA said the survey targets Maldivians returning from trips abroad. The authority said the data collected will support the compilation of the country's balance of payments statistics.

The survey covers six areas. The survey covers the main purposes of the trip, the country visited, ticket expenditure, accommodation expenditure, medical treatment expenditure, and total spending for the entire trip.

MMA said no personal information will be collected. Names and addresses of individual respondents will not be recorded. The authority said it will keep all collected information confidential.

MMA staff will be present at the Velana International Airport Arrival Hall throughout the survey period. The authority has asked the public to give their full cooperation.

The survey is part of a series MMA has run periodically to measure the travel spending of Maldivians going abroad. Past editions, most recently in 2017, found that a majority of Maldivian travelers cited medical treatment as their main purpose of travel, with Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, and Thailand among the top destinations.
