The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened its call for papers for the MMA Research Conference 2026, inviting researchers, policymakers and industry experts to contribute to discussions on macroeconomic and financial stability in a changing global landscape.
The third annual edition of the conference will be held under the theme “Macroeconomic and Financial Stability for Sustainable Development Amid Structural and Global Transitions.” It aims to explore how policy frameworks and financial systems can support long-term resilience and inclusive growth in the Maldives.
Platform for Policy-Relevant Research
The conference brings together local and international researchers to present findings on key economic and financial issues, while fostering dialogue between academia, policymakers and industry practitioners. It also seeks to strengthen collaboration between MMA and external researchers on topics aligned with national priorities.
Organisers said the 2026 edition will focus on the Maldives’ evolving economic landscape, shaped by exposure to external shocks, climate-related risks, fiscal and debt pressures, and the rapid digital transformation of finance.
Key Research Areas
Submissions are invited across a broad range of themes, including:
Monetary policy and price stability
Financial stability and regulation
Islamic finance and financial inclusion
Digital finance, payment systems and fintech innovation
External shocks, fiscal sustainability and climate risks
Economic diversification and inclusive growth
Housing, urban development and spatial economics
Health economics, public spending and social protection
Researchers may examine these topics from global, regional or local perspectives, with non-Maldives-based studies encouraged to highlight policy relevance to the country.
Submission Requirements and Timeline
Abstract submissions must include a clear research title, background and objectives, methodology, expected findings or contributions, and policy implications. Abstracts should be between 150 and 250 words, written in English, and submitted in Microsoft Word format.
Author details are to be excluded from the abstract document and provided separately through the official submission form.
The deadline for submissions is May 20, 2026, with selected abstracts to be announced on June 3, 2026.
Supporting Evidence-Based Policymaking
The MMA said the conference aligns with its Strategic Action Plan 2025–2027, which emphasises protecting stability, fostering innovation, strengthening collaboration and preparing for future economic challenges.
The authority added that it welcomes joint submissions and is open to collaborating with institutions on research that contributes to a more resilient and forward-looking Maldivian economy.
