The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Island Aviation Services Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Hajj and Umrah operations, marking a significant step toward improving travel arrangements for Maldivian pilgrims.
The agreement was signed yesterday at a formal ceremony by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Island Aviation Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas. The partnership is designed to ensure more convenient, reliable, and coordinated air travel services for those undertaking the sacred journeys of Hajj and Umrah.
According to the Ministry, the MoU focuses on strengthening flight connectivity between Malé and Jeddah, streamlining travel logistics, and enhancing the overall pilgrimage experience. By improving coordination between the two institutions, authorities aim to reduce travel-related challenges and provide smoother arrangements for pilgrims departing from and returning to the Maldives.
The agreement also outlines broader areas of cooperation beyond flight operations. These include providing religious awareness and training programs for Island Aviation staff to better serve pilgrims and ensuring the airline’s active participation in key initiatives organized by the Ministry, such as Hajj and Umrah conferences and related events.
Officials described the partnership as part of ongoing efforts to modernize pilgrimage services and elevate the standard of support provided to Maldivians fulfilling their religious obligations. The collaboration is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening operational readiness ahead of upcoming Hajj and Umrah seasons.
