MPL Hosts Fiyavathi Children at Hulhumalé Port in Community Outreach Initiative

Maldives Ports Limited has welcomed children and staff from Fiyavathi to Hulhumalé Port for a Ramadan community engagement programme aimed at strengthening corporate social responsibility efforts within the maritime sector.

The visit brought together MPL employees and Fiyavathi residents for an evening programme that included Iftar and a guided tour of port operations. According to MPL, the initiative was designed to provide the children with a new learning experience while fostering social inclusion and engagement during the holy month.

During the visit, the children were given the opportunity to explore heavy port vehicles and observe operational equipment under staff supervision. Port officials said the interaction was structured to ensure both safety and educational value, allowing participants to gain insight into the scale and function of national logistics infrastructure.

Hulhumalé Port plays a growing role in supporting cargo handling and logistics operations linked to the Greater Malé Region. As trade volumes expand alongside population growth and urban development, MPL has been scaling operations to manage increasing imports of food, construction materials and consumer goods.

Community outreach initiatives such as this form part of MPL’s broader engagement strategy, aligning corporate operations with social development objectives. State owned enterprises in the Maldives have in recent years placed greater emphasis on structured corporate social responsibility programmes, particularly during Ramadan, when public institutions traditionally increase charitable and community activities.

Fiyavathi operates under state care services, providing shelter and support for vulnerable children. Exposure visits to public institutions are often aimed at broadening awareness, building confidence and encouraging educational aspiration among residents.

For MPL, the programme reflects an effort to position port infrastructure not only as an economic engine but also as a community stakeholder. As infrastructure projects expand and public enterprises grow in scale, expectations around social contribution and community visibility are also rising.
