AvasApp has transitioned its taxi service from Avas Ride to a new platform, marking a shift towards a fully Maldivian-developed super-app.
The new application integrates several features aimed at improving safety and user experience, including real-time tracking, driver information and estimated trip durations.
The company stated that customer data is protected, with phone numbers and personal details hidden once a trip is completed.
Managing Director Mohamed Yaniyu Rameez said the transition was necessary due to limitations in the previous platform, which was based on external technology.
He noted that the new application was developed over two years and now covers 80 percent of the Greater Malé area.
In addition to taxi services, AvasApp allows users to book pickups and motorcycles, while also offering insurance-related services.
Safety features such as PIN verification and trip sharing have been introduced, allowing users to monitor journeys in real time.
The platform also includes cashless payment options, simplifying transactions for users.
AvasApp plans to expand its services to include parcel and food delivery, positioning itself as a multi-service platform.
The transition reflects broader trends towards digital innovation and locally developed technology solutions in the Maldives.
