The Maldives and India have agreed to establish a business council aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations and expanding private sector collaboration.
The decision was finalised during the Maldives-India Business Engagement Series held in Malé, attended by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, senior officials and representatives from the Indian business community.
The event was jointly organised by the Ministry, Invest Maldives and the High Commission of India in the Maldives.
According to the Ministry, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to enhance economic ties and create new opportunities through stronger partnerships with key trade partners.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening commercial relations and identifying areas for expanded cooperation between businesses in both countries.
The establishment of the Maldives-India Business Council is expected to provide a structured platform for engagement, supporting investment flows and facilitating collaboration between private sector stakeholders.
India remains one of the Maldives’ most important economic partners, with ties spanning infrastructure, trade and services.
The formation of a dedicated council signals a move towards more institutionalised engagement, aimed at supporting sustainable business partnerships and long-term economic cooperation.
