Tourist Arrivals Surge as Maldives Breaks Daily Record for Third Time This Month

The Maldives has once again set a new benchmark in its tourism performance, recording the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day for the third time this month, with 11,136 visitors entering the country yesterday.

The latest figure surpasses previous records set earlier in February, underscoring the strong momentum currently driving the tourism sector. Earlier highs were recorded on February 1 and February 8, when daily arrivals reached 10,253 and 10,462 respectively, reflecting a steady upward trend during the peak travel period.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, total tourist arrivals so far this year have reached 349,990, marking a 7.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. On average, the Maldives is now welcoming more than 7,777 tourists per day.

China remains the leading source market with 49,704 visitors, followed by Russia with 40,141 arrivals and Italy with 34,320. The United Kingdom and Germany also continue to be major contributors, accounting for 32,563 and 21,558 tourists respectively. India recorded 19,920 arrivals, while France, the United States, Poland and Austria rounded out the top ten source markets.

Resorts continued to dominate accommodation preferences, hosting 68.1 percent of all tourists. Guesthouses accounted for 26.9 percent of stays, reflecting the sustained growth of community-based tourism, while hotels and safari vessels represented 2.8 percent and 2.1 percent respectively.

The repeated breaking of daily arrival records highlights strong demand across multiple markets and reinforces confidence in the sector’s outlook for the year. With peak season traffic remaining robust, authorities are optimistic that current trends will support the government’s target of welcoming 2.5 million tourists by the end of the year, further strengthening the Maldives’ position as a leading global travel destination.
