Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the recipients of its annual Bank Fund 2025, awarding five local NGOs MVR 200,000 each to support impactful projects aimed at sustainable development and community empowerment across the country.
The initiative,
launched as part of the Bank’s commitment to social responsibility, identifies
and funds five innovative projects every year. The 2025 edition sees a diverse
group of organizations selected for their focus on healthcare, education, youth
empowerment, and mental wellbeing.
Among the
recipients is the Diabetes Society of Maldives, which plans to establish a
dedicated clinic in Hulhumalé. The facility will offer accessible,
community-based services focusing on diabetes prevention, early detection, and
ongoing management.
In Dhaalu Atoll,
the United Islamic Society will set up a state-of-the-art multimedia studio at
the Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre. This project aims to build digital media
literacy among students and further professionalize the school's
well-established Media Club.
Meanwhile, the
Foundation for Eydhafushi Youth Linkage (FEYLI) will enhance skills development
opportunities by creating two integrated labs at Baa Atoll Education Centre.
The labs will offer vocational and creative training programs to equip students
with practical competencies.
The Maldives
Nurses Association has been awarded funding to introduce a sustainable,
community-based mental health support service in Hulhumalé Phase 2. The program
will focus on outreach, rehabilitation, and accessible care for individuals
living with severe mental illnesses.
Lastly, Tiny
Hearts of Maldives will use the grant to develop a national digital resource
hub dedicated to heart health and physical wellness, creating an accessible
platform for families and healthcare providers alike.
Speaking about
the initiative, BML stated that the Bank Fund reflects its ongoing commitment
to empowering local communities through meaningful support and inclusive
development. “We are proud to support these five outstanding projects that
align with our vision of a healthier, more resilient Maldives,” the Bank said
in a statement.
Now in its
successive year, the Bank Fund continues to be a catalyst for grassroots
change, highlighting the vital role of partnerships between the financial
sector and civil society in shaping a sustainable future.
