Land reclamation works in HA. Dhidhoo have been successfully completed, with authorities confirming that a total of 112 hectares of land has been reclaimed, marking full completion of the project as planned.
The reclamation effort, which began on 04 January 2026, was carried out to facilitate the development of airport housing and essential community infrastructure on the island. Officials stated that the newly reclaimed land will play a key role in addressing future spatial needs linked to aviation services, residential expansion, and public facilities.
The completion of the project represents a significant step toward strengthening infrastructure in the northern region. By creating additional land capacity, the initiative is expected to support improved service delivery, economic opportunities, and long term planning for the island’s growing population.

Authorities highlighted that the Dhidhoo reclamation forms part of broader national efforts to enhance regional connectivity. Expanding infrastructure around strategic transport hubs, including airports, remains a central priority in improving mobility between islands and supporting balanced development across atolls.
The project also aligns with ongoing government initiatives focused on sustainable infrastructure development. Officials noted that carefully planned reclamation projects are intended to ensure communities have adequate space for housing, public services, and economic activity while maintaining resilience to future growth.
With reclamation now complete, the next phase is expected to focus on detailed planning and implementation of housing, utility networks, and other key facilities that will support the island’s transformation into a stronger regional hub.
