‘Oevaru’; Maldives first mental health conference begins

The National Center for Mental Health under Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) launched the first-ever mental health conference in the Maldives dubbed ‘Oevaru’ on Saturday, October 14.

Set as an annual event, which will be held once every year following its inception, the ‘Oevaru’ conference is the first of its kind in the Maldives with the primary aim to raise awareness about mental health issues.

The conference also aims to provide information and education that will foster collaboration among policymakers and civil society organizations, allowing them to interact under one roof.

The theme for the first ‘Oevaru’ conference is ‘Changing Currents – Forming Connections’.

The inaugural proceedings began with pre-conference workshops at Meerumaa Hall.

The two-day conference, on October 15-16 will be held at Villa Nautica Paradise Resort featuring keynote addresses, research presentations, and panel discussions.

The opening ceremony of the ‘Oevaru’ conference was graced by Maldives First Lady Fazna Ahmed.
