Tourism Ministry Announces Enforcement Action Over Unpaid Rent and Fines

According to the Ministry, the action is being taken pursuant to the Maldives Tourism Act, Law No. 2/99, and the regulations made under the Act.

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has announced that the Government will initiate enforcement action against tourism leaseholders who have failed to pay outstanding rent, fines and accumulated penalties relating to properties leased for tourism purposes.

According to the Ministry, the action is being taken pursuant to the Maldives Tourism Act, Law No. 2/99, and the regulations made under the Act.

The enforcement measures will apply to leaseholders of tourism properties that are currently in operation, as well as properties where operations have ceased or been suspended without prior authorization from the Ministry.

The Ministry has instructed all affected leaseholders to immediately settle outstanding rent, fines and penalty payments owed to the State in accordance with the terms and conditions of their respective lease agreements.

The announcement signals a move by the Government to strengthen compliance with tourism lease obligations and recover outstanding amounts due from tourism properties across the country.
