A dedicated seasonal market has been officially opened in Hulhumalé Phase 2 to coincide with the holy month of Ramadan, providing residents with easier access to essential food items throughout the fasting period.
Developed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the market began operations yesterday and is designed to support the increased demand for fresh produce and traditional foods during Ramadan. The initiative aims to ensure that residents living in the rapidly expanding Phase 2 area can conveniently purchase daily necessities without needing to travel long distances.
The market offers a wide variety of products, including fresh fish, fruits, vegetables, and an assortment of traditional Maldivian food items commonly consumed during Ramadan. By bringing vendors and essential goods closer to residential areas, HDC hopes to enhance community convenience while supporting small businesses and local suppliers.
Strategically located between Vinares Tower 8 and the temporary mosque in Hulhumalé Phase 2, the market is positioned to serve a large concentration of residents, particularly during peak hours leading up to iftar. The placement also allows worshippers and families to combine shopping with daily Ramadan routines.
HDC stated that the seasonal market reflects its broader efforts to improve urban living standards in Hulhumalé by ensuring that key services and facilities remain accessible as the city continues to grow. The corporation emphasised its ongoing commitment to developing Hulhumalé as a comfortable, well-integrated urban environment where residents can easily meet their everyday needs.
