The President on Tuesday accepted the resignations of 10 Cabinet Ministers in a significant move aimed at facilitating reforms aligned with public expectations and the administration’s evolving governance agenda.
The President’s Office said the ministers collectively submitted their resignations to provide the Head of State with greater flexibility to implement “positive changes” and recalibrate the government’s direction in line with the pulse of the people.
In a statement, the President expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers, acknowledging their service and contributions during their respective tenures. He noted that their efforts had played a meaningful role in advancing the government’s work.
The ministers who resigned are:
Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon – Minister of Defence
Dr. Abdulla Khaleel – Minister of Foreign Affairs
Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim – Minister of Health
Thoriq Ibrahim – Minister of Tourism and Environment
Dr. Aishath Shiham – Minister of Social and Family Development
Adam Naseer Ibrahim – Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage
Dr. Maryam Mariya – Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare
Ibrahim Waheed – Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts
Adam Shareef Umar – Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works
Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed – Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development
The President’s Office has yet to announce replacements or indicate whether any of the outgoing ministers will be reassigned to other roles.
The development marks one of the most significant Cabinet changes since the administration took office, signaling a potential shift in policy priorities and governance strategy in the months ahead.
